The JKL Lady Dolphins delivered a masterclass in tactical efficiency at YMCA Wandegeya on Wednesday, April 1, securing a decisive 68–47 victory over the KIU Rangers in the 2026 Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL).
In a matchup that promised high-intensity action, the Lady Dolphins’ superior interior presence and a breakout third quarter proved too much for the Rangers to handle.
A Masterclass in Efficiency
The game began as a gritty defensive struggle, with both teams struggling to find rhythm early on. However, the Lady Dolphins found their spark after the halftime break.
Leading by a slim margin at the half, JKL exploded in the third quarter, outscoring KIU 27–13. This surge was fueled by relentless transition play and a defensive shell that forced the Rangers into difficult, contested shots.
By the fourth quarter, the Lady Dolphins had established a comfortable cushion, allowing them to control the tempo and close out the game with ease.
Imanishimwe Leads the Charge
The night belonged to Ritah Imanishimwe, who put on a clinical display of modern basketball. She recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while also disrupting the Rangers’ passing lanes with 4 steals.
She was ably supported by rising talent Tamasha Nsubuga, who added 20 points and a team-high 5 assists, while the evergreen Flavia Flirsh Oketcho orchestrated the floor with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
The Battle of the Boards
The story of the game was written in the paint. The Lady Dolphins dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Rangers 64–46. This advantage translated into 32 points in the paint and 12 second-chance points, effectively denying KIU any momentum.
For the Rangers, Ines Kanyamuneza fought hard with 16 points, while Sharon Kirabo delivered a monstrous rebounding performance, hauling down 19 boards alongside 13 points. Despite these individual efforts, KIU’s shooting woes—finishing at just 20%—sealed their fate.
Looking Forward
With this win, the JKL Lady Dolphins send a crystal-clear message to the rest of the league. The reigning champions’ blend of experienced leadership and explosive scoring makes them the team to beat as the season progresses.
For the KIU Rangers, the focus now shifts to improving shooting efficiency and interior defense before their next outing.
