Chelsea have dropped Enzo Fernandez for two matches after the midfielder publicly questioned his future at Stamford Bridge.
Manager Liam Rosenior confirmed the Argentine will miss Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Port Vale and next Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.
Fernandez, who has captained in Reece James’ absence, said he would “look at his options after the World Cup” and expressed interest in living in Spain.
Rosenior called the comments “disappointing” and said a line had been crossed in terms of club culture.
Chelsea, reeling from four straight defeats and a Champions League exit to PSG, now face further turbulence as dressing-room tensions grow.
