Italy have parted ways with manager Gennaro Gattuso after failing to qualify for a third straight World Cup.
The Azzurri lost 4-1 on penalties to Bosnia-Herzegovina in Tuesday’s play-off, sealing their absence from the 2026 tournament.
Gattuso, a 2006 World Cup winner, apologised and said: “With a heavy heart, I consider my time as coach to be over.”
His exit follows the resignation of FIGC president Gabriele Gravina and delegation head Gianluigi Buffon, deepening Italy’s crisis.
Names linked to the job include Massimiliano Allegri, Roberto Mancini, Antonio Conte, Fabio Cannavaro, and Stefano Pioli.
Italy, four-time champions, last appeared at the World Cup in 2014.
