Unstoppable Vipers March On: Uganda Cup Progress Extends Unbeaten Run as Double Dream Gains Momentum

Vipers Sports Club’s relentless charge this season shows no signs of slowing down after they edged NEC 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shootout to book their place in the Stanbic Uganda Cup semi-finals on Good Friday at Lugogo.

In a tightly contested encounter at the MTN Omondi Stadium, neither side could be separated across 120 minutes of goalless football, setting the stage for a nerve-wracking shootout. The Venoms, however, once again demonstrated their composure under pressure.

Abdul-Karim Watambala, Yunus Junior Sentamu, Hilary Mukundane and captain Milton Karisa all converted from the spot for Vipers, while Enock Luyima’s effort was the only blemish, denied by NEC goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo.

NEC faltered early in the shootout, with Warren Buule striking the crossbar and Pius Obuya seeing his effort saved by Dennis Kiggundu. Although Hakim Wandera, Ronald Innocent Media and Ssebwalunyo converted their kicks, it wasn’t enough to stop the Venoms’ progression.

The victory not only sends Vipers into the last four but also preserves their remarkable unbeaten run on the pitch this season, a testament to their consistency, discipline, and winning mentality under pressure.

With silverware firmly in sight, Vipers are now on the right trajectory to secure a second consecutive domestic double. They currently sit comfortably at the top of the Uganda Premier League table with 50 points and nine matches remaining, putting them in a commanding position in the title race.

As the business end of the season approaches, the Venoms are not just grinding out results, they are building a legacy of dominance. If their current form is anything to go by, both the league title and the Uganda Cup could once again be heading to Kitende.
