Chennai Cricket Club face Iganga CC on Sunday, April 5, in the only Matchday Six fixture of the Cricket Uganda Men’s 50-Over League, with both sides seeking momentum in Bronze Group B.
The match, set for Lugogo Cricket Oval, comes during the Easter weekend with organisers scheduling just one game on the card. Attention turns to two debutant teams at different stages of their early campaigns.
Chennai head into the contest third in the group after opening their season with a win, while Iganga sit second-last following defeat in their only outing so far.
Chennai’s confidence stems from a commanding victory over Africa CC on March 22. Batting first, they posted 164 for 7 in 25 overs, led by Mohammed A.K.L. Hakkem’s 89 off 55 balls. Amogh Kothari added 29, while Ratheesh S. Pillai and Barath Balakrishnan chipped in to lift the total.
In reply, Africa CC were dismissed for 106 in 21 overs while chasing a revised 163 under the Duckworth-Lewis method. Kamlesh Meghlani and Balakrishnan picked up three wickets each. Hakkem, who was named player of the match, will again be central to Chennai’s hopes.
Iganga, largely made up of school players from the district, are looking for a response after an 80-run loss to Centurion A on February 28. They conceded 129 for 8 in 18.3 overs, with Gerald Orumo scoring 40 off 24 balls, before collapsing to 49 all out in 13 overs during the chase.
Otema Paul took three wickets in that game, while Micheal Lwamafa claimed four to seal the win for Centurion A.
Iganga will rely on Makesh Patel for runs and the experience of John Kenny Lukwita as they target their first victory of the campaign.
The fixture offers an early test of direction for both sides. Chennai can strengthen their position in the standings with another win, while Iganga have the chance to reset their season with a first result.
