From Tanzania to Europe: Ugandan Players Leave Their Mark – a Weekend Wrap

It was a weekend laced with brilliance, resilience, and defining moments as Ugandan footballers scattered across the globe delivered performances of real consequence for their respective clubs.

In Tanzania, Young Africans Sports Club were propelled to a commanding 3-0 triumph over Tanzania Prisons, thanks to a masterclass from Allan Okello.

The elegant midfielder not only found the back of the net but also orchestrated play with finesse, registering an assist and deservedly walking away with the Man of the Match accolade.

Elsewhere in the Tanzanian top flight, Khalid Aucho endured a difficult outing, playing the full 90 minutes as Singida Black Stars FC fell 2-0 to TRA United.

Over in England, promising youngster Divine Mukasa featured prominently, clocking 89 minutes as Leicester City battled to a pulsating 2-2 draw against Preston North End.

Meanwhile, Toby Sibbick watched from the sidelines as Burton Albion shared the spoils in a 1-1 stalemate with Barnsley.

Late cameo appearances defined the weekend for some, with Nathan Asiimwe introduced in the dying moments as AFC Wimbledon succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Lincoln City.

Similarly, Bevis Mugabi remained an unused substitute as Carlisle United played out a goalless draw with Gateshead.

In Kenya, the moment of magic belonged to Mustafa Kizza, who produced a sensational long-range strike from inside his own half to inspire Nairobi United to a resounding 3-0 victory over Shabana FC.

The Kenyan Premier League also witnessed solid contributions from Samuel Ssenyonjo, who impressed over 83 minutes as AFC Leopards secured a 2-0 win against Murang’a Seals. Between the posts, James Setuba emerged as a hero, denying a penalty and preserving a clean sheet with commanding authority.

In Scotland, Uche Ikpeazu was introduced at halftime but could do little to halt Ross County’s heavy 4-0 defeat to Airdrieonians.

However, there was brighter news for Jordan Obita, who delivered a composed full-match performance as Hibernian cruised to a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock.

Elsewhere, Rogers Mato remained on the bench as Heart of Midlothian played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Livingston. Elvis Bwomono was also among the substitutes as Aberdeen narrowly lost 1-0 to St Mirren.

In Israel, Timothy Awany delivered a strong showing across 84 minutes, though Ashdod ultimately fell short in a thrilling 3-2 contest against Maccabi Netanya.

Romania offered a mixed narrative: Elio Capradossi was an unused substitute as Universitatea Cluj edged Rapid Bucharest 2-1, while Baba Alhassan made a late appearance for FCSB in their narrow 3-2 defeat to FC Botoșani.

In Rwanda, APR FC leaned on Ugandan influence, with Ronald Ssekiganda and Hakim Kiwanuka both starting, while Denis Omedi was introduced from the bench. It was Kiwanuka who proved decisive, netting the solitary goal to seal a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Muhanga.

From dazzling goals to gritty defensive displays, Ugandan exports once again stamped their authority on pitches far beyond home soil, each performance a testament to the nation’s ever-growing footballing pedigree.
