Nine-time champions SC Villa have booked their place in the Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinals after edging out underdogs Happy Boyz Kagaba with a hard-fought 1-0 victory on Easter Monday in Kassanda.
The Jogoos were made to sweat against a spirited Kagaba side that had captured the imagination of fans with their remarkable run.
For much of the contest, the hosts held firm, frustrating Villa’s attacks and raising hopes of another giant-killing.
The breakthrough finally came in the 72nd minute, when Andrew Otim finished off a well-worked move to score the decisive goal. His strike proved enough to separate the two sides, sending Villa into the last four for the first time since the 2017/18 season, when they were eliminated by Vipers SC.
Despite bowing out, Kagaba left the competition with pride, having emerged as the standout surprise package of this year’s tournament. Their unlikely streak of victories won admiration across the football fraternity.
With Villa joining defending champions Vipers SC, URA FC, and Kitara FC in the semifinals, the race for the Uganda Cup crown now intensifies.
