Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has told his players to turn the sting of back-to-back cup defeats into motivation as they face Sporting in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg.
The Gunners, beaten by Manchester City in the League Cup final and Southampton in the FA Cup, are without Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Jurrien Timber through injury. Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard are fit to return.
Sporting, unbeaten at home in Europe this season, insist there are “no favourites” in the tie.
The second leg is set for April 15 at the Emirates, with Arsenal hosting Bournemouth in the Premier League in between.
