St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende head coach Hassan Zzungu has struck a hopeful and forward-looking tone despite his side’s 1-1 draw against hosts Zimbabwe in their Group A opener at the 2026 CAF African Schools Championship.
Kitende showed commendable character to come from behind, with Bashir Edema cancelling out Moses Maremudze’s second-half opener. Yet, while the result ensured Uganda picked up a point, Zzungu did not hide his frustration over his team’s inefficiency in front of goal.
“The game was so disappointing,” Zzungu admitted. “After creating so many chances and managing to score just once, our opponents created once and put it away.”
However, the experienced tactician quickly shifted focus to the positives, emphasizing belief and growth as his side prepares for a decisive run of fixtures.
“A point is not bad. We shall build on the point attained as we look forward to tomorrow’s games,” he added, signaling confidence within the camp.
With little time to dwell on missed opportunities, Kitende now turn their attention to a demanding Tuesday schedule, where they will face the Democratic Republic of Congo before locking horns with Morocco in a high-stakes encounter.
Zzungu’s measured optimism reflects a team determined to learn quickly, sharpen their edge in attack, and keep their qualification hopes firmly alive.
