Hassan Alwi has set his sights on the prestigious Pearl of Africa Rally after a commanding victory at the 2026 KCB National Rally Championship opener in Mbale.
Alwi outpaced rival Oscar Ntambi to secure the season’s first win, a result that has boosted his confidence and reignited belief in Uganda’s rallying potential ahead of one of the country’s biggest motorsport events.
The Pearl of Africa Rally, a cornerstone of Uganda’s motorsport calendar, draws top regional talent and serves as a key stepping stone to the continental stage. Ugandan drivers have struggled in recent editions, with Kenya’s Karen Patel clinching the 2025 title.
Alwi believes unity could be the decisive factor. “If we come together as Ugandan drivers and push as one, we have the ability to reclaim the Pearl of Africa title,” he said.
His call echoes growing sentiment within the rally fraternity that collaboration and shared strategy could elevate Uganda back to the summit. The optimism is further fueled by Yasin Nasser’s African triumph last year, a landmark victory that continues to inspire the current crop of drivers.
