The men’s National Volleyball League finals did not go on as planned after the National Council of Sports requested clarification on the controversial semifinal rulings that reshaped the championship lineup.
In a notice, the Uganda Volleyball Federation confirmed it had received communication from NCS seeking an explanation on the dispute arising from the men’s semifinals and the process used to reach its decision.
As a result, the federation suspended the finals that had been scheduled to take place, with a new date to be announced after further consultations.
The latest development follows a turbulent sequence of events in the playoffs. Nemostars Volleyball Club had appeared to secure a place in the final after defeating Elyon Volleyball Club 3-0 in the decisive semifinal match, bouncing back from a Game Two loss to clinch the series.
However, Elyon successfully petitioned the federation over the eligibility of two Nemostars players, prompting a review by a UVF committee.
The federation subsequently overturned the result, awarding Elyon a 3-0 victory and a place in the final. A separate ruling also handed Nkumba Volleyball Club progression after a similar eligibility case in the other semifinal.
Nemostars rejected the decision, describing the petition as baseless and confirming plans to appeal through the relevant sports bodies. The club’s move to escalate the matter to NCS has now triggered a wider review of the process behind the federation’s ruling.
With the regulator stepping in, the finals between Elyon and Nkumba are now on hold, casting uncertainty over the conclusion of the 2026 season.
The federation said further engagement with all parties involved will guide the next steps before a new date for the finals is set.
