In a sport defined by grit and resilience, few stories embody that spirit like Rogers Omedwa, a professional teacher who has carved out a name in Ugandan football.
Born in 1995 in Paidha, Zombo District, Omedwa’s path reflects patience, discipline, and faith. Unlike many players who devote themselves solely to football, he has balanced two demanding careers: education and the game.
His football journey began in Jinja with Dams Water FC, followed by stints at Kireka and Agape Secondary School teams in the non-league ranks.
From those modest beginnings, he earned a breakthrough move to Busoga United. His career then took him to Arua Hill and URA FC before settling at Entebbe UPPC, where he currently plays.

A goalkeeper by trade, Omedwa has been a standout this season. His composure and shot-stopping ability have produced 12 clean sheets, placing him among the league’s top performers.
Away from the pitch, Omedwa is a qualified teacher specializing in Geography, History, and General Paper. He has taught at institutions including St. Peter’s High School Jinja. Balancing books and boots has not been easy, but he credits discipline and faith for his consistency:
“Discipline, fear, and trust in God have kept me going,” he says.

Looking ahead, Omedwa hopes to establish an academy to nurture young football talent. For now, his focus remains on elevating his career and delivering top performances between the posts.
From the classroom to the goal line, Rogers Omedwa proves that with determination and belief, excellence in more than one calling is possible.
