Uganda extended their unbeaten start at the Women’s Easter T20 Cup with two victories on Sunday at Entebbe Cricket Ground, beating Uganda A and USA through disciplined bowling and measured batting displays.
The Victoria Pearls first claimed a 39-run win over Uganda A in a rain-shortened 14-over contest before returning in the afternoon to defeat USA by 65 runs, reinforcing their early status as title contenders.
In the morning fixture, Uganda recovered from an immediate setback after captain Janet Mbabazi fell off the first ball to post 93/6. Stephanie Nampiina led the rebuild with 32 off 24 balls, while Kevin Awino added 25 off 30 deliveries. Immaculate Nakisuuyi and Rita Musamali contributed 13 runs each to steady the innings.
Uganda A’s response never gained traction as they were restricted to 54/7. Captain Phiona Egaru Kulume top-scored with an unbeaten 18, but lacked support as Uganda’s bowlers maintained control. Nakisuuyi and Irene Mutonyi picked up two wickets apiece, while Malisa Ariokot and Sheila Namagoba added one each. Nakisuuyi’s all-round performance earned her Player of the Match.
Uganda carried that momentum into the afternoon clash against USA, posting 124/6 after opting to bat. Nakisuuyi again led the scoring with 35 off 30 balls, supported by Musamali’s 26 and Nampiina’s 20. Esther Iloku added 17, while late contributions from Proscovia Alako and Ariokot pushed the total beyond reach.
USA were bowled out for 59 in 16 overs, with only Isani Mahesh Vaghela (14) and Sainavi Kambalapalli (13) offering resistance. Sarah Akiteng led the bowling effort with four wickets, while Consy Aweko claimed three in a dominant display. Akiteng was named Player of the Match.
Uganda’s performances across both matches underlined their balance, with contributions spread across the batting order and a bowling unit that maintained pressure throughout. Their ability to adjust between a shortened game and a full 20-over contest highlighted a side growing in consistency as the tournament progresses.
The competition resumes on Tuesday with USA facing Uganda A, before Uganda take on Uganda A later in the day.
