Badminton Uganda has stepped up its grassroots campaign, training more than 150 schools during a Shuttle Time workshop drive across the Teso sub-region and parts of Busoga.
The initiative, held from March 28 to April 9, 2026, reached seven districts in Teso—Ngora, Kumi, Bukedea, Butaleja, Butebo, Pallisa—and extended to Kaliro in Busoga.
Teachers and students were equipped with skills to introduce and sustain badminton in their schools.
Federation chief executive Simon Mugabi hailed the campaign as a “major success,” noting the enthusiasm of participants.
“Having concluded these regions, we are looking at expanding the campaign to other parts of the country,” he said.
Mugabi admitted the outreach faced challenges, though he did not specify them, adding that lessons learned will strengthen future programs.
Participants expressed optimism, saying they had gained valuable knowledge and were ready to pass on skills to students—an effort expected to boost visibility and participation of badminton at school level.
The Shuttle Time program is part of Badminton Uganda’s broader strategy to nurture talent from the grassroots.
In 2025, similar workshops reached districts including Iganga, Rwampara, Kayunga, Nakaseke, and Pader, underscoring the federation’s sustained push to grow the sport across Uganda.
