Dominic Frimpong, 20, has died after armed men opened fire on Berekum Chelsea’s team bus returning from a Ghana Premier League match.
The Ghana Football Association expressed shock and pledged tighter travel security.
Police say investigations are ongoing, with the attackers still at large.
Frimpong, on loan from Aduana FC, had scored two goals in 13 appearances this season.
