Defending champions Yobo Yobo and joint leaders SC Rwizi maintained their perfect starts to the Chaapa League season with wins on Matchday 4, as the race for playoff spots began to take shape on Sunday at NEC Grounds in Bugolobi.
Yobo Yobo secured a controlled 2-0 victory over Dingiswayo, with Jim and Sharif on target to keep the title holders among the early pace-setters. Rwizi matched that consistency, edging X Convicts 1-0 to underline their credentials as serious contenders.
Bulls Old Timers strengthened their playoff push with a 2-1 win over Akajju, who remain without a victory this season. Akajju showed fight but could not recover, leaving them stuck near the bottom of the standings.
Karasande and Mutakoha shared the points in a 1-1 draw that keeps both sides locked in the mid-table battle, while Ruharo needed a stoppage-time equaliser from Trevor to rescue a 2-2 draw against CHOGM after trailing late in the game.
Elsewhere, See Far continued their strong run with a 2-0 win over Unruly. TY Sheldon registered their first victory of the campaign, beating their opponents 2-0 through a Henry strike and a Tinka own goal.
Kataara’s struggles continued after Tibi’s own goal handed Ezekyeenda a narrow 1-0 win, giving Ezekyeenda a timely boost in their campaign.
Off the pitch, the presence of Old Boys from the Ntare Lions League added to the matchday atmosphere, showing support for their Mbarara counterparts and reinforcing the community feel around the competition.
Chaapa League Marketing Manager Christian Arinaitwe said the competition is entering a decisive phase, with teams now fully aware of what is at stake.
“The league is becoming more competitive with every matchday, and you can see that in the results and performances. Teams are now fully aware of what is at stake, especially with only eight slots available for the playoffs after the regular season. We are also grateful to our sponsors like Guinness who continue to support the growth of the league and enhance the experience for both players and fans,” he said.
Denise Nazzinda, Guinness Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries, added: “We are proud to be part of the Chaapa League and to support a platform that brings people together through football. It is exciting to see the level of competition get intense and the fans showing up in big numbers. We remain committed to delivering memorable experiences for everyone involved.”
Matchday 5 is scheduled for Sunday, April 19 at the same venue.
