In a surprising turn of events at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Uganda’s top athletes, Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo, have officially withdrawn from tomorrow’s 5000m semifinals.
The Uganda Athletics Federation confirmed the news, citing the need for the runners to recover from the physically demanding 10,000m race they recently competed in.
Both Cheptegei and Kiplimo, who are considered strong contenders for medals, have decided to prioritize their health and recovery.
The rigorous demands of the 10,000m race have taken a toll on their bodies, making it impossible for them to compete at their usual high standard in the 5000m event.
Oscar Chelimo will now be the sole representative for Uganda in the 5000m semifinals.
Chelimo, who is known for his resilience and strong finishes, will be carrying the hopes of the nation as he takes on the world’s best in the race.
