Ugandan steeplechase runner, Peruth Chemutai is poised for gold at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
The 25-year-old will be in action at 10:14 pm tonight at Stade de France in the Women’s 3000m steeplechase final.
She comes into today’s race full of confidence as the defending champion having won the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
“I do not care, I do not fear anyone, I will run my race because I do not have pressure,” Chemutai stated after earning her place in the final on Sunday.
“When I won in Tokyo I was not in good shape, but now I am,” she noted.
Chemutai is not only the defending champion in this category but also the first Ugandan female athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympics.
Adding to her composure is the fact that she advanced to the final with the best performance in all the heats of round one.
The Bukwo district-born steeplechaser posted a time of 9:10.51, and she is the favourite to claim gold.
