Kenyan secondary schools outclassed their Ugandan counterparts on the first day of the Boys’ 15s rugby competitions in the FEASSA Games 2024 hosted by Bukedea Comprehensive School, Bukedea district, Eastern Uganda.
All four Ugandan representatives (Male Category) including St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), Namilyango College (NGO), Kings College Budo (KCB), and Makerere College School (Macos) failed to pick up the maximum 4 points as required for a win.
All Saints Embu emerged victorious over SMACK with a narrow 24-23 win. However, SMACK was a better challenger amongst the Ugandan schools having lost by a try on a wet evening in Bukedea.
Lenana School on the other hand defeated Namilyango College 10-7 in a highly anticipated encounter that saw Ngo miss by only 3 tries to level up the scoreline.
It is also important to note that the Lenana – Ngo clash registered the least tries in total when compared to the rest thereby indicating the match status as a Titans battle.
Butula Boys were the most ruthless opposition of the day as they sent 60 past Kings College Budo to register the highest tries scored in the Boys’ 15s Rugby competitions of the 2024 FEASSA games.
Kitondo School secured a 16-10 win over Makerere College School to affirm the dominance of schools from Uganda’s traditional neighbors and archrivals Kenya in the Boys’ 15s Rugby.
Before the FEASSA games, the Boys’ 15s category in Kenya witnessed intense competition earlier this year during the first term Nationals in Machakos, where these four schools established themselves as dominant forces.
This was evident on Monday afternoon as these four schools including All Saints Embu, Lenana, Butula and Kitondo cruised past their Ugandan counterparts on the wet grounds of Bukedea Comprehensive School.
However, matchday two will see Kenyan and Ugandan sides face each other in derby clashes. Ugandan schools will be seeking to collect maximum points against each other as they go head-to-head with familiar opponents.
