Coming into the game against Simba Queens, Kawempe Muslim Ladies had a chance to advance to the semifinals of the CECAFA Zonal qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League with a game to spare.
However, the FUFA Women Super League champions were defeated by regional women’s football powerhouse Simba 3-0 at Abebe Bikila Stadium in Ethiopia on Wednesday afternoon.
Ayub Khalifa’s girls gave a good account of themselves in the first half, which ended goalless, but the Tanzanians were resurgent in the second half, netting thrice.
Aquino Corazon headed Simba into the lead at the half-hour mark before Jentrix Shikangwa’s header in the 67th minute doubled their advantage.
Elizabeth Wambui ensured that Kawempe had no way back into this game with a beautiful finish with a quarter of an hour to full-time.
On six points from two games, Simba are Group B leaders and through to the semifinals, whilst Kawempe remains on three points after two outings ahead of the other game between FAD and Buyenzi, who are both pointless.
Games in Group B will climax on Friday, August 23, when Kawempe takes on FAD, hoping to progress to the semis, whereas Simba will play Buyenzi, trying to consolidate their number one spot.
