Castle Light National Basketball League record champions City Oilers have set the pace running in hunt for their 10th consecutive title in the men’s division.
Oilers defeated KIU Titans 70-61 to grab game one of the best of seven series final playoffs at Lugogo Arena on Wednesday.
It was the usual Oilers in the opening two quarters taking a 37-29 lead at the interval but the Titans attempted a comeback in the third quarter.
The Kansanga-based side lost the third quarter by a single point 50-51 but the Oilers regained their grove in the fourth quarter for it to end a nine-point game.
Petty Parrish was once again the star of the game in his second match for the Oilers, registering 22 points, that’s more than any other player on the day.
It’s Titans’ Peter Obleng that came closest with 20 points.
Parrish added five assists, four rebounds, and three steals to his 22 points.
As Oilers’ victory was anticipated in the men’s division, on the other hand, UCU Lady Canons’ 71-66 victory over JKL Lady Dolphins caught many by surprise in the women’s division.
It’s important to note all these four teams were in last year’s final as Oilers and Dolphins emerged victorious.
Oilers and UCU will be hoping to make it 2-0 whilst Dolphins and Titans will be aiming to tie the series in game two on Friday.
