Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC have concluded their CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers campaign on a high note, securing a bronze with a 2-0 victory over Tanzania’s Simba Queens FC.
Kawempe Muslim, who narrowly missed out on the final after a 2-1 defeat to Ethiopia’s CBE Women FC in the semi-finals, bounced back strongly in the third-place playoff held on Thursday, August 29.
The win was particularly significant as it avenged their earlier 3-0 group stage loss to Simba Queens.
Today’s game saw Kawempe take an early lead in the 18th minute through Sumaya Nabuto, who found the back of the net to give her team a 1-0 advantage.
The team extended their lead shortly after the break when Agnes Nabukenya doubled the score in the 50th minute, securing the win and the third-place finish.
This victory not only earned Kawempe Muslim the bronze medal but also demonstrated their ability to recover from their earlier loss.
Having been outplayed by Simba Queens in the second group stage game, Kawempe’s win in the playoff highlighted their growth and improvement throughout the tournament.
With the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers now behind them, Kawempe Muslim will shift their focus to the upcoming domestic season, where they will aim to defend their league title.
The Finance Trust Women Super League, formerly known as the FUFA Women Super League, is set to kick off on September 21.
