The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially released the fixtures for the upcoming 2024/25 Finance Trust Women Super League.
The season will kick-off on Friday, September 27, and is scheduled to conclude on May 3, 2025.
Kampala Queens FC, who are last season’s runners-up, will play the opening match of the league on Friday September 27, taking on Wakiso Hill WFC, a team that narrowly avoided relegation.
The game will be played at the MTN-Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, kicking off at 4 PM.
Match Day 1 will continue on Saturday, September 28, with three fixtures lined up, including Lady Doves playing at home against Tooro Queens at Katusabe Dove Stadium in Masindi.
In Soroti, two newly promoted teams, Olila High School and Amus College (formerly Byafaayo Queens), will face off in what is expected to be a closely contested match.
Meanwhile, reigning champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies will begin their title defense at home in Kawempe, hosting Rines SS. All Saturday matches will start at 10 AM.
Action on Match Day 1 will conclude on Sunday, September 29, with Uganda Martyrs Lubaga hosting She Corporate in Bugolobi, and Makerere University WFC playing against She Maroons. Both matches will also kick off at 10 AM.
Among the fixtures to watch out for in the upcoming season are the clashes between Kawempe Muslim and Kampala Queens.
Their encounters are slated for Match Day 9 on Sunday, November 24, when Kawempe Muslim will host, and Sunday, April 20, 2025, when Kampala Queens will host on Match Day 20.
The latter fixture is particularly noteworthy as it could potentially serve as a title decider, since it’ll be played with just two match days remaining in the season.
This season, the league has undergone a significant transformation with a new name following a UGX 2 billion sponsorship deal with Finance Trust Bank.
The bank will sponsor both the top tier and second division leagues, hence the top tier league’s name change from FUFA Women Super League to Finance Trust Women Super League.
Additionally, the 2024/25 season will feature an increase in the number of participating teams, expanding from ten to twelve.
Four teams including FUFA Women Elite League winners She Corporates, Amus College, Tooro Queens, and Olila High School were promoted to the top tier.
Also noteworthy, selected fixtures have been scheduled to coincide with the StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches, since most clubs in the women’s league are attached to those in the men’s league.
This alignment aims to attract larger audiences and enhance women’s football in the country.
The first round of the league will run until December 15, 2024, after which there will be a break until February 1, 2025, when the second round will commence.
It is important to note that the fixtures are subject to adjustments based on television schedules and national team commitments.
