Uganda Cranes Gear Up for South Africa Clash

With the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers just days away, the Uganda Cranes have ramped up their preparations for a crucial showdown against South Africa.

The much-anticipated match is set to kick off on Friday, September 6th, at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.

The Uganda Cranes, eager to break a frustrating streak of missing out on the past two AFCON editions, are determined to secure a positive start in Group K.

The group also includes Congo and South Sudan. The top two teams at the end of the qualifiers will earn their spot in the final tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco.

Coach Put expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to qualify. He emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication, urging the players to fight for their place in Morocco.

“I have been to 5 AFCON finals and I want to add to that number with this team,” Coach Put told his players after a training session. “You have what it takes to qualify, but you need to work hard for it. You will have to fight for the right to be in Morocco next year.”

The Uganda Cranes have been training in Johannesburg, where they have adjusted to the colder weather.

The team, which is based at the Red Radison hotel in Rosebank, has been joined by all the professional players summoned by Coach Put.

Following their match against South Africa, the Uganda Cranes will face Congo on Monday, September 9th, at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
