The continuous sidelining of some Uganda Cranes players is now becoming a prolonged talk around town.
Goalkeeper Salim Jamal draws much attention especially for his outspoken character and Cranes head coach remarked on his situation.
“Players missing out on national duty due to some reasons is something that happens globally,” Put told the media in a pre match press conference on Thursday.
“Some of these decisions were made before me so I don’t want to come to the players in question?”
“I know and respect the player (Jamal) because he is a good goalkeeper and he has proved a lot for his country.”
“But you know things can happen and you’re either selected or not so I don’t want to comment more on that,” he added.
Jamal is a player who has been in and out of the squad with his absence allegedly attached to indiscipline, allegations he has continuously denied.
“Being straight isn’t indiscipline and I have never been an indisciplined player,” Jamal posted on his X handle in the aftermath of the summoning of the recent Cranes squad.
The Richards Bay goalkeeper in South Africa had issue from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and was dropped from the national team before he was called back in March 2023 under Milutin Micho Sredojevic.
He has not played for the Cranes since making an error in a 2-1 loss to Guinea in the World Cup qualifier game played in Morocco in November 2023.
Isma Watenga has since taken over and is expected to start in goal against South Africa in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Orlando Stadium on Friday, September 6.
