Winning the Uganda Open is a Dream Come True – Dayne Moore

Dayne Moore, the 2024 Johnnie Walker Uganda Professional Open champion, regards his victory at the prestigious tournament as a defining moment in his golfing career.

The Zambian professional golfer posted a gross score of 281, having set the pace on the first day with an impressive seven-under-par 64.

He followed this strong start with rounds of 73, 72, and 72 over the next three days, earning him the championship title on his third attempt.

Moore’s triumph saw him claim Shs 31 million from the Shs 150 million prize pool.

“Winning the Uganda Open, or any national open, is a dream come true. It’s a moment that goes into the history books. A few years back, when I first played here, I said I would win it, and it’s nice to have done it,” Moore said.

Moore has competed on the Sunshine Tour for several years, a tour renowned for featuring some of Africa’s top golfing talents.

“There’s a lot of talent on the Sunshine Tour, and the difference there is the level of exposure. You get to play with golfers who can shoot 10 or 20 under in a four-day event. That’s why I’m in South Africa—so I can play with those guys daily,” he explained.

The tournament attracted over 120 golfers from 10 countries. Phillip Kasozi, who finished joint sixth, was Uganda’s top performer.

Rwanda’s Celestin Nsanzuwera secured second place with a total score of 283, while Kenyan duo Dismas Indiza, last year’s champion, and Adel Balala finished tied for third.
