Uganda has improved in the latest FIFA rankings released by the international football governing body on Thursday, September 19.

The Pearl of Africa is currently ranked in the 90th position in the men’s World rankings.

It is an improvement of five positions given that they were positioned 95th when the rankings were updated in July after the Euros and Copa America.

The Uganda Cranes’ good performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers during the September international window came just in time.

Paul Joseph Put’s charges began their qualification campaign with a 2-2 draw away to the 2023 AFCON first runners up Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

They followed it up with an impressive 2-0 victory over Congo Brazzaville at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole three days later.

Uganda’s advance in World rankings by five places also ensured that they upgraded by three positions in Africa into 18th from the previous 21st.

No team in the CECAFA region is ranked higher than Uganda and that has been the case for a long time now.

Argentinia and Morocco continue to be the greatest footballing countries in the World and Africa, respectively.
