Kitara’s misery in the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League season continues.
The Royals lost their third consecutive league game to newly promoted side Police at Royals Park in Butema, Hoima on Thursday.
Gadafi Kacancu netted the all-important goal in the 28th minute which handed the Cops a 1-0 win, their first victory since returning to the top flight.
The visitors should have led the game 2-0 at halftime but Brian Obedi’s goal was controversially ruled out for offside by referee Ssali Masood after his assistant Elizabeth Nassolo raised her flag at the half-hour mark.
Kitara’s best chances of the game fell to striker Jude Ssemugabi and Patrick Kaddu with the former nodding his effort onto the crossbar while the latter missed a seater with an empty net at his mercy on his second debut for the club.
The last time Brian Ssenyondo’s charges won a game was on the opening matchday of the season when they defeated newbies Lugazi United 3-0 in Najjembe.
Since then they have lost 2-1 at home to NEC, 2-0 away to KCCA and now 1-0 at home against Police.
They are also yet to win nor collect a point at their new home the Royals Park Stadium in Butema, Hoima.
Since leaving Masindi Stadium, they have played twice in Butema and lost on both occasions to NEC and Police.
On the other hand, the Cops registered their first win since returning to the UPL from the Big League having drawn their opening three games.
Coming into Thursday’s game, Police had drawn goalless to both BUL and Mbarara City while they drew 1-1 against Bright Stars.
They are also still unbeaten with the likes of table leaders KCCA and second-placed NEC.
Victory over Kitara lifted Police to the sixth position on the 16-team log with six points whereas Kitara remained 11th with three points.
The Uganda Cup holders will visit Mbarara City at Kakyeka Stadium after the international break on October 18 while Police will host Express at Kavumba on October 16.
