Vipers SC fought back from a goal down to secure a 2-1 victory over reigning champions SC Villa in an intense Uganda Premier League clash at Kitende on Saturday.
The result moves Vipers to seven points, placing them fourth in the league standings, three points behind leaders KCCA.
Villa took the lead in the 36th minute through Elvis Kiwanuka, who finished a quick passing move with a powerful strike inside the penalty area.
However, the lead was short-lived as Yunus Sentamu restored parity just two minutes later. A misplaced back pass by Villa defender Masembe was intercepted by Milton Karisa, who set up Sentamu for an easy finish.
The decisive moment came in the 53rd minute when Rogers Torach completed Vipers’ comeback.
Torach found the back of the net from a well-delivered corner, capitalizing on a lapse in concentration by the Villa defense.
Vipers head coach Nikola Kavazovic was absent due to suspension, leaving assistant John Ayala Luyinda to lead the team.
Villa’s second defeat of the season leaves them in ninth place with six points. The Jogoos will be looking to bounce back when they host Bright Stars at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, after the international break.
Meanwhile, Vipers will face Wakiso Giants in an away fixture as they aim to build on their newly found momentum.
