France: Travis Mutyaba Makes Winning Debut for Bordeaux

Uganda Cranes attacking midfielder Travis Mutyaba made an instant impact in his debut for FC Girondins de Bordeaux after signing with the French club last week.

The 19-year-old, who penned a three-year contract on Tuesday, was immediately included in Bordeaux’s starting lineup for their 2-1 victory over Saumur in Group B of National 2 on Saturday.

Mutyaba played a key role in a match that saw Bordeaux claim their first win of the season after five outings.

Former Premier League striker Andy Carroll, known for his time at Liverpool, West Ham, and Newcastle, was the star of the game, netting both goals for Bordeaux in the 34th and 84th minutes.

Despite Wail Bouhoutt pulling one back for Saumur in the 73rd minute, Bordeaux held on to secure the much-needed victory.

This win was crucial for Bordeaux, lifting them from 15th to 14th position in the league standings, with six points now to their name.

The team will look to carry this momentum forward when they return to action after the international break, hosting Avranches on October 19.

For Mutyaba, this successful debut marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his career.

Having impressed in his first outing, the former SC Villa youngster now shifts his focus to national duty, as he joins the Uganda Cranes for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Uganda will face neighbors South Sudan in a Group K doubleheader, starting with a home fixture on October 11, followed by a trip to Juba four days later.
