Defending champions Kawempe Muslim secured a narrow 1-0 victory over She Maroons on Sunday, extending their unbeaten run in the Finance Trust FUFA Women Super League.
The away win at Luzira Prisons playground keeps Kawempe Muslim on top of the table with three victories from three matches.
An early goal in the 6th minute separated the two sides, as Kawempe applied heavy pressure from the onset.
Despite the early setback, She Maroons responded with a much-improved second-half performance but were unable to find the equaliser.
The game’s turning point came in the second half when Kawempe was awarded a penalty after Agnes Nabukenya was brought down in the box.
However, She Maroons goalkeeper Jackline Adong pulled off a stunning save to deny Kawempe a second goal, keeping her team’s hopes alive.
Speaking after the match, Kawempe Muslim head coach Ayubu Khalifa praised his side’s resilience but acknowledged that they lost control of the game in the midfield during the second half.
“I’m happy we picked the three points, though the game was tough,” Khalifa said. “We lost midfield control in the second half. Our ambition is to maintain our winning form, even though we have injured players and some are preparing for exams.”
She Maroons head coach Simon Peter Ochuka admitted that his team struggled to manage the game after conceding early.
“The ladies failed to settle down due to pressure after the early goal,” Ochuka remarked. “We’ve identified areas for improvement. The opponent was organized but beatable. My girls deviated from our plan due to the pressure.”
The result keeps Kawempe at the top of the league table with nine points, four ahead of Lady Doves, Kampala Queens, and Makerere University, all tied with five points. She Maroons, with four points, currently sit in fifth place.
In other match-day three action, Rines and Amus College shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, while She Corporate and Olila High School ended 0-0.
Lady Doves drew 1-1 with Wakiso Hill, while Makerere University played to a goalless draw against Kampala Queens.
