The Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) has taken a firm stance against violence in the sport, imposing severe penalties on individuals involved in a recent incident during a National Hockey League match.
In a statement released on Tuesday evening, the UHA condemned the “deplorable scenes of indiscipline” that occurred following the match between Wananchi SC and Weatherhead HC Men on October 12.
The incident involved players from Weatherhead HC who attacked and assaulted match officials.
The Executive Committee of the UHA has acted swiftly to address the situation, prioritizing the safety and well-being of players and match officials.
John Nsubuga and Dickson Kisira, the individuals identified as perpetrators of the violence, have been banned from all hockey and hockey-related activities for a period of 24 months.
In addition to the individual bans, Weatherhead Hockey Club has been fined for the actions of its registered players.
The UHA emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all involved in the sport, and warned that such violent behavior would not be tolerated.
Weatherhead are yet to release a statement in response to the fine and the action of their players.
