Morocco Set to Host Prestigious CAF Women’s Champions League Finals in November

Morocco has been chosen to host the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League finals, the premier women’s club football competition in Africa, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announcement on October 15th. The tournament will be held from November 9th to 23rd, 2024.

This is not Morocco’s first time hosting the prestigious event. In 2022, the nation successfully staged the competition, further solidifying its commitment to promoting women’s football on the continent.

This year’s hosting follows Morocco’s acclaimed execution of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2022.

Eight teams will vie for the coveted top prize, with the winner receiving a substantial financial reward of USD 400,000. The runner-up will walk away with USD 250,000, highlighting the growing investment and recognition of women’s football.

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns are the current title holders, having secured victory twice in the past three years.

They will face stiff competition, including Morocco’s ASFAR, who emerged victorious in 2022, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns in the finals.

The path to the finals involved six zonal tournaments across Africa. These qualifiers determined six of the eight participating teams, with the remaining two slots allocated to the host nation (ASFAR) and the defending champions (Mamelodi Sundowns).

The qualified teams are:
* Holders: Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)
* Host: ASFAR (Morocco)
* WAFU A: Aigles de la Medina (Senegal) – First Senegalese club to qualify
* WAFU B: EDO Queens (Nigeria)
* COSAFA: University of Western Cape (South Africa)
* UNAF: Tutankhamun (Egypt)
* CECAFA: CBE FC (Ethiopia)
* UNIFFAC: TP Mazembe (DR Congo)
