The Kitaka 10s rugby tournament is set to take place from October 26-27 at King’s Park Arena in Bweyogerere.
The annual event, organized by Kampala Old Boys (KOBs) Rugby Club, is held in memory of Ugandan rugby legend Edward Kitaka.
Now in its second edition, the tournament will feature both local and international teams, with Nile Special returning as the title sponsor.
This year’s tournament is expected to host 16 men’s teams, including two from Kenya, and eight women’s teams competing in a round-robin format.
The Kenyan sides include NondeScripts, who claimed the men’s title in the previous edition, and will face stiff competition from Uganda’s top rugby clubs. In the women’s category, Black Pearls will look to defend their title from last year.
Speaking about the significance of the tournament, Tonny Stone Luggya, Chairman of KOBs RFC, emphasized the event’s role in honoring Edward Kitaka’s legacy while promoting rugby development in Uganda.
“We are proud to organize this tournament to celebrate the life of a great rugby player, Edward Kitaka. The Kitaka 10s is also an opportunity to bring local and international teams together to compete at the highest level,” Luggya stated.
Joel Galla, Brand Manager at Nile Special, expressed excitement about the continued partnership with the tournament, highlighting its importance in the Ugandan sports calendar.
“We are honored to be part of the Kitaka 10s for the second consecutive year. This tournament is a showcase of rugby talent and passion, and we look forward to supporting its growth and success,” Galla said.
With a mix of competitive action and tribute to a rugby icon, the Kitaka 10s promises to be a significant event for rugby fans in Uganda and the region.
