Anisha Muhoozi, CEO of KCCA Football Club, has commended Lugazi Football Club for the historic appointment of Oliver Mbekeka as the first female head coach in the Uganda Premier League (UPL).
Mbekeka, who guided Lugazi to a stunning 1-0 victory over Express in her debut, has been at the center of attention for breaking new ground in Ugandan football.
Muhoozi praised Lugazi Chairman Abdul Kawuulu for making the bold move to appoint Mbekeka, stating, “You are a pacesetter, and I am positive this gesture will open up many other doors for women in football. This is a new dawn for Ugandan football.”
Mbekeka’s appointment comes as a significant milestone, as more women look to break barriers in sports leadership roles within the country.
Initially appointed as an assistant coach, Mbekeka was promoted to interim head coach following the departure of Sadiq Ssempigi.
