The Uganda Cricket Association has announced the squad that will represent the country in the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup Challenge League B tournament.
The tournament, set to take place at Lugogo and Entebbe Oval from November 4th to 16th, 2024, is a crucial step in Uganda’s quest to achieve One Day International (ODI) status.
Riazat Ali Shah has been named captain for the tournament. The dynamic all-rounder has been a consistent performer for the national team and takes over the reins from former captain Brian Masaba, who stepped down after leading Uganda in the ICC Men’s World Cup earlier this year.
“I’m excited to lead this talented group of players,” said Shah. “We’re all committed to achieving our goal of qualifying for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.”
The squad, selected by head coach Abhay Sharma and the UCA Selectors Committee, features a mix of experienced players and promising young talent.
Notable additions include Shrideep Mangela and Raghav Dhawan, who both impressed during Uganda’s recent series against Papua New Guinea.
Pascal Murungi, a former U-19 captain, also returns to the side after a successful stint in Zimbabwe.
Before the start of the tournament, Uganda will face Bahrain in a three-match warm-up series in Jinja.
The Challenge League B tournament is a vital pathway to the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
