Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has announced a preliminary 38-player squad for South Africa’s final two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan.
With both games scheduled for the November FIFA International break, the squad is set to be narrowed down to 23 players in the coming days as Broos prepares for the critical match-ups.
South Africa, sitting second in Group K, requires just two points from their last two matches to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON.
They’ll first travel to Uganda for a showdown against group leaders on November 15 before returning home to Cape Town to face South Sudan at DHL Stadium on November 19.
Their last qualifier ended in a 1-1 draw against Congo Brazzaville, temporarily delaying their qualification but keeping them in strong contention.
In his comments, Broos noted the importance of squad depth, especially with the high stakes of both matches.
The Uganda-South Africa clash promises to be a decisive encounter in Kampala, with Uganda needing just one point to secure their own qualification.
The November 15 match at Mandela National Stadium will be pivotal for both sides as they fight for top positions in Group K.
