Uganda Cranes striker Steven Mukwala has opened his scoring account for Tanzanian giants Simba, delivering a last-gasp 1-0 victory over Mashujaa in a tightly contested Ligi Kuu Bara match on Friday.
Mukwala, who has often been used as a substitute since joining Simba, made an impact off the bench by scoring in the 97th minute, sealing the crucial away win at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma.
This timely goal highlights Mukwala’s potential for Simba, coming as Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put prepares to announce the squad for the AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and Congo Brazzaville.
Having been part of the national team over recent international windows, Mukwala’s standout performance positions him as a strong contender for selection.
Simba’s victory lifts them to second place in the league standings with 22 points, just two points behind leaders and rivals Young Africans (Yanga), where fellow Ugandan and Cranes captain Khalid Aucho plays.
Simba has now completed eight matches, with a game in hand against Azam scheduled for Saturday, November 2, which could prove pivotal in the title race.
