FUFA Mourns Sudden Passing of Assistant Referee Peter Kabugo During UPL Match

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations has expressed profound sorrow following the sudden passing of National Assistant Referee Peter Kabugo, who collapsed during Friday’s Uganda Premier League match at Wankulukuku Stadium.

Kabugo, who was officiating the game between SC Villa and UPDF, collapsed unexpectedly in the 70th minute. Despite immediate medical assistance, he was later pronounced dead.

In an official statement, FUFA conveyed deep condolences to Kabugo’s family, friends, and the Uganda Football Referees Association.

The federation emphasized their support for the family during this difficult period and has requested privacy for them.

“A postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” FUFA stated.

Kabugo, known for his passion and dedication to officiating, was a respected figure within the football community.

His untimely passing has cast a pall over the league and prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, players, and officials alike.

The tragic event overshadowed SC Villa’s commanding 5-0 victory over UPDF. The match saw Villa’s Charles Lwanga make headlines by scoring four goals, the first player to do so this season. However, the celebratory mood was subdued as the stadium grappled with the devastating news of Kabugo’s passing.

The football community now rallies to honor Kabugo’s contributions to Ugandan football, with tributes pouring in from various stakeholders in the sport.

Both SC Villa and UPDF have extended sympathies to his family, recognizing his impact on the game.

Kabugo’s dedication will be remembered as players and officials continue in the sport he passionately served.
