The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Richard Odong, the Chairman of the Gulu District Football Association, who passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Lacor Hospital in Gulu City.
Odong was widely respected in Uganda’s football community for his passionate commitment to the sport.
He served as the fitness coach for the Acholi Province FUFA Drum Team, and his role as the Chairman of Gulu DFA saw him leading initiatives to support and develop football in the region.
Beyond his official duties, he was the Owner and Chairman of National Youth FC, a Gulu-based club, where he played a critical role in nurturing young talent and promoting youth involvement in football.
FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo described Odong as “a dedicated football leader who led by example, supporting and investing in the game.”
Magogo noted that Odong’s contributions were “immeasurable” and that his absence would be keenly felt by those in the football community, especially those associated with Gulu DFA, National Youth FC, and the Acholi Province Drum Team.
“On behalf of FUFA and the entire football community, I extend heartfelt condolences to Mr. Odong’s family, friends, relatives, Northern Region Football Association, Gulu DFA, Acholi Province, and National Youth FC,” Magogo stated.
“May the Almighty God grant the family strength during this difficult time and rest Mr. Odong’s soul in Eternal Peace,” he added.
Odong’s legacy in Ugandan football remains through his efforts in grassroots development and his leadership within the Acholi football community, where his impact will be remembered for years to come.
