Following Uganda’s confirmation of qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), FUFA President Moses Magogo has emphasized the importance of securing a win against South Africa in the upcoming Group K match to boost Uganda’s global football ranking.
“We are grateful to God that we have qualified, but I have told the boys that we need to win against South Africa. It will be good for our rankings,” Magogo stated.
He noted that an improved ranking would be advantageous for Uganda in the AFCON group draw, potentially ensuring a more favorable matchup in the final tournament in Morocco.
Magogo also announced a performance incentive for the Cranes, with a USD 5,000 winning bonus approved by the FUFA Executive Committee.
“The FUFA Excom had prior decided that the winning bonus for the game against South Africa is USD 5,000, and this they will still get if we beat South Africa,” Magogo said.
Uganda’s qualification was confirmed following South Sudan’s 3-2 win over Congo in Juba, effectively securing both Uganda and South Africa’s spots in the AFCON tournament.
Now, with a spot assured, Uganda’s final qualifier on November 15 has shifted from a decisive clash to an opportunity to advance the country’s standing on the continental stage.
