Dream Big: Ssenyondo Sets Sights on Cranes Role

Brian Ssenyondo has been confirmed as the new head coach of the U17 Uganda National Football Team, the Cubs, ahead of their upcoming U17 CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ssenyondo’s appointment comes after he was dismissed from his managerial role at Kitara last month.

Notably, this is not Ssenyondo’s first involvement with the U17 team.

He has previously been a part of the U17 technical staff, contributing to the team’s development.

The experienced coach is no stranger to national team management and is expected to bring valuable insight as he prepares the Cubs for the upcoming qualifiers, scheduled for December 14-28, 2024.

Ssenyondo’s name had also been mentioned in connection with a possible move to Express, with both the coach and the club’s CEO, Ashiraf Miiro, confirming they had held discussions.

However, Ssenyondo’s focus has now shifted to the Cubs, with the youth team training camp set to begin on November 22, 2024, at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

A provisional squad of 37 players has been called up to begin preparations for the competition.

The U17 CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers will feature teams from East and Central Africa, including Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Burundi, Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Sudan.

The top two teams will earn a spot in the 2025 U17 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.

Ssenyondo’s experience, having previously worked with the U17 technical team, positions him well to guide the Cubs through this crucial phase of preparation and qualification.

His leadership and knowledge will be instrumental in shaping Uganda’s young talents as they aim to make an impact on the continental stage.
