Vipers delivered a stunning second-half performance to defeat URA 2-0 in an Uganda Premier League clash at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Friday.
The victory lifted the Venoms to the top of the table with 20 points, reaffirming their dominance this season under interim coach John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda.
After a goalless first half, team captain Milton Karisa opened the scoring in the 56th minute.
Karisa capitalized on a well-timed play, firing in a goal from a tight angle to break the deadlock.
The skipper then set up Allan Okello for the second goal in the 65th minute.
Okello’s precise header marked his sixth goal of the campaign, making him the league’s top scorer.
Vipers’ Impressive Run
This win extended Vipers’ remarkable form under Luyinda, who has overseen six games, securing five wins and one draw, the latter coming against KCCA.
The team’s consistency and efficiency in both defense and attack have made them strong contenders for the title.
Their next challenge comes on Saturday when they host Kitara at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, aiming to further extend their lead at the summit of the league standings.
URA’s Struggles Continue
Meanwhile, URA suffered their second consecutive loss following their 1-0 defeat to Maroons before the international break.
Coach Alex Isabirye’s side struggled to match Vipers’ intensity, leaving them 10th in the standings with 11 points.
The Tax Collectors now face a crucial game against Wakiso Giants on Tuesday at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, as they aim to get their campaign back on track.
This commanding performance solidifies Vipers’ position as early title favorites, while URA must regroup quickly to avoid slipping further down the table.
