The Uganda Cubs have been drawn in Group A of the CAF U17 AFCON CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, where they will face Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Burundi in the quest for a spot at the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
The qualifiers, set to run from December 14 to 28, 2024, will be hosted by Uganda, with matches scheduled to take place at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo and St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Uganda’s role as hosts adds a home advantage as they aim to secure one of the two available slots for the continental tournament.
Group B features Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Kenya in what promises to be a highly competitive zonal tournament.
The Cubs, currently in camp under head coach Brian Ssenyondo at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru, are focused on preparing for the challenge ahead.
Uganda’s Group A opponents pose a significant challenge. Tanzania, a consistent contender in regional tournaments, will likely be the toughest rival, while Ethiopia and Burundi have demonstrated strong performances in recent youth competitions.
With just weeks remaining until the competition, preparations will intensify, and the final squad is expected to be announced soon after the conclusion of the ongoing training camp in Njeru.
