NEC secured a historic 2-1 victory over traditional giants SC Villa on Friday evening at the MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo.
This crucial win has propelled NEC to the top of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) table.
A goal from Mucureezi and a late game-winner, proved to be the difference between the two sides.
The first half was a tightly contested affair with both teams creating numerous chances.
However, it was the second half that truly ignited the match. Mucureezi broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, giving NEC the lead.
SC Villa fought back and equalized through Kiwanuka, but NEC’s resilience shone through.
With just minutes remaining, Cromwell sealed the victory for NEC, sending the club’s supporters into ecstasy.
This win has significant implications for the UPL title race. NEC now sit top the table with 22 points, two points ahead of Vipers.
NEC’s next fixture is against URA on Thursday, December 5th, at Nakivubo Stadium.
