Uganda’s national football team, the Uganda Cranes, has been invited to participate in the special 2025 edition of the Mapinduzi Cup.
The tournament, traditionally a club competition, will feature national teams for the first time in its history.
The Mapinduzi Cup aims to serve as preparation for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which kicks off on February 1, 2025.
Uganda, alongside Kenya and Tanzania, will host the tournament, and the Mapinduzi Cup provides a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their squads.
Suleiman Jabir, Vice Chairman of the organizing committee, confirmed the tournament schedule during a press briefing.
“The competition begins on 3 January and the finals will be played on 14 January. A draw will be conducted to group teams into pools for the tournament, which will take place at Gombani Pemba, as the Aman Stadium undergoes renovations,” he announced.
Uganda will compete against other national teams, including Zanzibar Heroes, Kenya’s Harambee Stars, Kilimanjaro Stars, Burundi, and Burkina Faso.
The winner of the competition will take home Tsh100 million (approximately UGX 152 million).
