Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Suspends Amasaza Cup to Mourn Princess Kabajumba

The Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom has suspended all activities, including the highly anticipated Amasaza Cup 2024, scheduled for Wednesday December 11 in Kagadi.

This decision comes in respect of the burial of Princess Ruth Kabajumba, the elder sister of His Royal Majesty, Omukama Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, which is taking place today in Kinfufu, Mbarara.

As a sign of mourning, all kingdom flags have been flying at half-mast for the past two days, December 10th and 11th, 2024, to honor the late princess.

The Amasaza Cup 2024 has been rescheduled to Saturday, December 14th, 2024, at 3:00 PM, at the Kagadi Model Stadium in Kagadi District.

Owek. Andrew K. Byakutaga Ateenyi, the Prime Minister of the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, explained that the decision to suspend activities and reschedule the Amasaza Cup was made out of respect for the late princess and to allow the kingdom to pay its last respects.

“We understand that this may cause some inconvenience to our participants and stakeholders,” said Owek. Byakutaga Ateenyi, “but we believe that paying our last respects to our dear princess takes precedence.”

Numerous citizens have joined in mourning Princess Ruth Kabajumba, extending their condolences and sympathies to the Royal family.

Furthermore, the postponement of the Amasaza competitions in Kagadi district also followed a request from members of the sports fraternity in the district.

This request was made following the passing of Bebe Ali, the captain of Kagadi Football Club, who will also be laid to rest today.
