Uganda’s She Cranes booked their place in the semi-finals of the Africa Netball Cup with an emphatic 85-34 victory over Eswatini in their final Pool B game played today.
The dominant performance saw all players given game time as Uganda displayed their intent to secure continental glory.
By halftime, the She Cranes had established a commanding 48-13 lead, leaving Eswatini with no chance of a comeback.
Uganda extended their advantage through the third quarter, taking the score to 63-25, before sealing the one-sided encounter with a flurry of goals.
This victory marks Uganda’s second win in three matches at the tournament.
They started their campaign on a shaky note with a narrow 49-50 loss to Zimbabwe but bounced back with a crucial 55-43 win against hosts Namibia on Wednesday.
Uganda’s offensive prowess has been evident throughout the tournament, with the team scoring a total of 189 goals across the three matches while conceding 127, leaving them with a goal difference of 62.
The She Cranes now await the conclusion of Pool A games to learn their semifinal opponents.
Pool A features powerhouses South Africa and Malawi, alongside Zambia and Kenya, making for a potentially intense semifinal matchup.
Meanwhile, Eswatini exits the competition without a win, having suffered defeats to Zimbabwe (27-75) and Namibia (47-58) before their loss to Uganda.
The semifinals are will take place tomorrow, Friday December 13, with the highly-anticipated final set for Saturday.
Uganda, second best ranked side on the continent and three-time Africa Netball Cup champions, will be determined to reclaim the title they last won in 2018, after finishing as runners-up in 2021.
