Kitara FC and Uganda Cranes forward Denis Omedi has reportedly arrived in Morocco ahead of the 2024 CAF Awards, set to take place tonight.
Omedi’s spectacular rabona strike against KCCA in the FUFA Super 8 is among 11 goals shortlisted for the prestigious CAF Goal of the Year award.
The same goal has also earned a nomination for the FIFA Puskás Award.
Reports indicate that Omedi’s goal is a strong favorite to clinch the title.
Should he win, he would become the second Ugandan to secure a CAF accolade, following in the footsteps of his namesake, former Cranes captain and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango.
Onyango was named CAF Player of the Year (Based in Africa) in 2016 and included in the CAF Team of the Year the same year.
Omedi’s journey to Morocco follows a reported two-week stay in Spain, sparking speculation about a potential move to Spanish club Leganés.
The 30-year-old forward has missed Kitara’s last three games against Maroons, Mbale Heroes, and Vipers.
Will Omedi make history tonight? Stay tuned as the 2024 CAF Awards unfold.
