The Nalukoola Kawempe North Sports Tournament 2024-2025 was officially launched on Monday December 16 at Basmati Restaurant, marking the beginning of an exciting new era for sports in the region.
Organized by Counsel Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi, the tournament aims to foster unity, develop local talent, and engage the community.
The competition, which kicks off on December 22nd, will feature football, netball, and Ludo, with 48 teams from nine parishes vying for glory.
Each parish will field both football and netball teams, ensuring a diverse range of participants. The tournament will culminate in exciting cash prizes, trophies, and even a cow for the most outstanding performers.
Counsel Nalukoola Luyimbazi emphasized the need for improved sports infrastructure in Kawempe, while acknowledging the current state of the grounds at Kawempe Muslim Secondary School.
He expressed concern over the government’s lack of focus on sports development, stating, “If we had MPs who truly cared about sports, we could see a much-needed boost in the budget for youth talent development rather than the focus always being on the next election.”
Moses Nkata, Head of Technical for the tournament, highlighted the importance of grassroots participation.
“The competition begins at the zonal level, where teams from each parish will compete to represent their area,” Nkata explained. “Every winning team at the parish level will be awarded a trophy and jerseys, and the winners at the constituency level will take home major prizes.”
